Samantha Kaltenegger (part-time model, DCS Soccer Player and all round great personality!) is in the latest Nike commercial featuring the US Womens National team. Samantha is featured in snips throughout but probably the best one is at the 43 second mark when she is crossing the ball and 48 second mark when she is riding the team bus (front seat left side). Congratulations Samantha!
DCS was represented at the recent Pacific Soccer Coaching Conference at the Fortius Sports Centre in Burnaby as the players were put through their paces. Coaches from across North America were on hand to participate in the conference and see some on field demonstrations and that is where DCS came in.
The players first session was run by Ron Smith, former Technical Director of the Australian National team, who kept the players on their toes in a “Developing Good Habits in Players” course. Ron is seen here in the pictures explaining the drills and walking them thru the opening session.
The second session was lead by Dick Bate, FIFA Technical Director, on “Developing Possession”. Dick Bate has managed England’s U-17 to U-20 program over the years so this was a real treat to have the DCS players instructed by a very influential and knowledgeable coach. Dick put the players through some very challenging drills but, as he told the coaches in attendance, he was most impressed with the DCS players and how they handled these drills.
Hats off to the players who had hundreds of eyes on them in the broiling heat but it was another memorable experience for them.
The U-16 DCS Sting Girls team took Silver at the recent 62nd Annual Coastal Cup Final in Aldergrove. The 2014/15 season was a challenging one for the players with an inordinate amount of injuries to start off (including losing both of their keepers for the entire season!). That said though, this is a very resilient group of players and they just got down to working hard in training and getting positive results in their games.
In their four years of eligibility this was the DCS Sting teams third Coastal Cup final appearance and they are also proud to be heading off to their second Provincial Championships to be hosted in South Surrey from July 9 – 12.
The players are taking a very well deserved break off for the month of May before returning to the training grounds in June to prepare for what will be a very tough Provincial Championship series.
The girls want to thank the DCS club for their support this season as well as their rabble of travelling fans and hope for a good turnout to cheer all the DCS teams on in July.
